X Factor finalists Journey South (aka brothers Andy and Carl Pemberton) are delighted to announce their signing with Syco Music / RCA Label Group. Syco Music President Simon Cowell said of the deal, "Since Journey South first auditioned on the X Factor I knew that they had something special. They proved this over the live shows and I have confidence in the guys that they will go from strength to strength now and sell a lot of albums."
Journey South will release their self-titled debut album on 20th March 2006 making it the perfect gift for Mothers Day. The album is a mixture of old favourites and new material written by the duo. Several of the tracks were made famous by their spine-tingling performances on X Factor (including 'Let It Be', 'Desperado' and lead track 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face') and took them to the gripping Grand Final watched by over 9.3 million viewers.
‘Journey South’ carries the duo’s signature acoustic sound; throughout the 12 tracks the solos and two part harmonies are alternated a la Simon and Garfunkel. Highlights on the album include the self penned ‘All Of You’ and ‘All That I Am’, written during their development in the X Factor series.
Other high points on ‘Journey South’ include 2 songs that were stable favourites of the local gigs the band have played before their TV fame: ‘English Rose’ a classic by The Jam has been re-worked and made their own, similarly their version of ‘The Circle’ (Ocean Colour Scene), both songs showcases their talent of adding a new twist to something familiar.
Journey South are 30 year old former electrician Andy Pemberton and his brother Carl, a 25 year old former plumber from Middlesbrough. The duo come from a close-knit family and grew up listening to rock n roll and classic the songwriters such as Paul Weller, John Lennon, and Bon Jovi. 5 years ago Andy and Carl quit their jobs, bought a caravan on their credit card and embarked south. Their mission: to make it in the music business.
